Getting braces

Your First Visit
The initial visit to our office is a no-charge evaluation by Dr. Yurkiewicz to assess the relative need for orthodontic treatment. If it is determined that it is not the most optimal time to initiate orthodontic treatment for your child, he/she will be placed on a recall program for regular, periodic checks. (Please refer to the Loose Tooth Gang section of the website). If treatment IS indicated for you or your child, diagnostic records are scheduled, or performed the same day if time allows. Complete diagnostic records generally include a medical/dental history, clinical examination, plaster study models of the teeth, digital photographs of the face and teeth, and orthodontic X-rays. These materials are essential to accurately assess orthodontic problems and develop the most appropriate treatment plan for each patient. These records are also helpful in charting the relative progress of treatment as orthodontic treatment occurs.

Consultation
After Dr. Yurkiewicz reviews your records, we discuss all aspects of your treatment with you in detail, including fees and financial planning. This is a very informative session and all interested parties are encouraged to attend.

Appointments
The ‘banding’ appointment in which you receive your appliances (expanders, braces, etc.) usually takes ~1-2 hours. You will then return to see us at regular, 4 to 8 week intervals for orthodontic adjustment, which usually takes ~20-40 minutes. Our regular office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to stay on schedule for our patients, and ask you extend the same courtesy by notifying us immediately. Please cancel only if it is an emergency, as it may be difficult to reschedule as appointments are made weeks in advance.

Fees and Payments
The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient’s malocclusion (bad bite). We work hard to make orthodontics affordable by providing payment plans, accepting assignment of insurance benefits from most insurance plans and filing the necessary insurance claim forms for you. In an effort to keep orthodontic fees down while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established the following financial policy:

If full payment is made at the onset of treatment, we extend a fee discount. (If you have insurance, we will offer this discount for payment of your portion of the fee not covered by insurance.)
To fit your families’ needs, financial arrangements can be made to extend payments over a period of months, with or without interest.
For your convenience, we accept payments by VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER, cash and check.
In cases of serious delinquency, treatment will be discontinued, although we will make every effort to accommodate patients with temporary difficulties.

Insurance
If you have insurance, we help you determine and obtain any orthodontic benefits available. As a service and convenience to you, we accept most insurance and assignment of benefit for orthodontic care. Please be aware that the amount of your benefit is a negotiated benefit between your insurance company and your employer, and is not related to the actual cost of treatment. We will work with you and on your behalf, to ensure that you receive the maximum insurance benefits to which you are entitled, but each patient is ultimately responsible for all fees including any balances not paid by insurance.
